You cannot put your self-confidence in somebody else’s hands.

That is yours and yours alone to maintain.

You cannot let how good you feel about yourself depend on how someone else feels about you.

One of the greatest missions in life is to become self-centered when it comes to confidence—to make sure your confidence depends on your own measurement of yourself, no one else’s.

You know you’re confident when you do the right thing, it upsets everyone, and you’re still happy with yourself.

That’s when you know you’ve got the system contained.

So if you’re like, “Okay, I’ll decide how good I’m doing based on whether or not she smiles at me today,” that is the weakest system you could ever have—partly because you’re also going to take every mood she has personally, when most of the time, it’s not even going to be about you.

The phrase “happy wife, happy life” also implies that anything the wife feels is directly related to the husband.

That’s a child’s viewpoint, okay?

You’re supposed to develop out of that mindset around the age of 9, when you stop thinking you cause everything.

Ninety-nine percent of your wife’s moods are going to have nothing to do with you.

Your whole life has led up to this moment, and most of the time, you haven’t even been a major part of her life.

If she’s really upset because, you know, her package didn’t arrive on time, that has nothing to do with you as a husband anyway.
