If you keep giving, giving, giving, all you’re doing is raising their baseline.

At some point, it’s going to reach a level you can’t maintain—probably quicker than you’d imagine.

Then you’re just going to annoy them, and they’ll feel like you don’t deliver, because you set the expectations too high.

It also makes you decentralized.

There’s no core to you.

You’re too flexible, too available.

There’s nothing for them to grab onto and say, “That’s where my man is.” Instead, it’s, “He’s anywhere. He’s anywhere I want him to be.”

Who is that? It’s nothing.

It’s no one.

It’s a ghost—wind.

There’s nothing to cling to there.

You can’t be trusted if you don’t have a spine.

If you say yes to everything, she doesn’t know what you actually want. She knows some of it must be a lie. She knows you’re sacrificing yourself.

She’s smart enough to realize that nobody agrees to everything all the time, that you couldn’t possibly have all the same preferences as her.

And yes, she might still let you do it—but she’s resenting you as well.

The main thing is: when you say yes all the time, it’s impossible to respect you, and that is terrible for a relationship.

Self-sacrifice is really a covert contract.

You’re not really making a sacrifice—you’re issuing a loan with interest.

So, when someone sacrifices and bears that burden on their back, they’re actually waiting for a payback in the long run.
