The Truth About Your Guilt: You Feel Bad for the Wrong Things

If you really cared about other people you would let them process their emotions.

You’d let them make decisions in their life without trying to control them.

You’d let someone else be the helpful one, or the kind one, or the funny one.

You’d let other people share in the glory.

You’d also let them hate you, if that’s how they needed to feel to make progress with their life

Basically, you’d leave them to please themselves.

Stop telling yourself you’re a good person and stop patting yourself on the back without any sort of skeptical critical thinking.

Have a look at the long-term impacts that you actually have on people.

Notice how you create: codependency rather than autonomy; self-doubt rather than confidence; laziness rather than motivation; entitlement rather than responsibility.

Notice how you’re not really serving these people— you’re debilitating them.

I know you feel guilty when you don’t people please, but that is a misfire.

That’s ’cause your brain is wired backwards.

I know—I had to rewire my whole brain.

It was all backwards. Some of it still is.

You should be feeling guilty about trying to control everybody for your own selfish pleasure.

You shouldn’t feel guilty about leaving them to figure out life for themselves.
