The REAL reason you’re broke

I had a brutal wake-up call early on in my coaching business.

I was haemorrhaging money. I wasn’t doing well financially, so I decided to do a deep honest review of all my finances, something I’d never really done before in my life. I’d always avoided it for some reason, especially when I started making good money at Corrections.

And what I discovered was embarrassing. A huge portion of my money was being spent on Subway sandwiches.

I’m talking hundreds of dollars per month!

I would never have guessed in a million years that the reason my business was suffering is because I didn’t cook for myself often enough.

I learned one of the most important lessons not just in finances but in life: it’s the small things that accumulate to make or break you.

Nearly every “broke” person out there thinks that they have hard luck when it comes to finances. When somebody sees themselves as poor or broke they generally also think that they’re doing the best they can in a tough world. And in some cases this is true, but in most cases it is not.

If you are struggling financially, I bet if I looked at your financial statement I’d find that you’re spending too much money that you don’t need to be spending, and that’s your real money problem.

This applies to all areas of your life. Take an audit. Your relationships are dissolved by frequent white lies. Your health is ruined by small sugary snacks. Your art is held back by minutes of procrastination that accumulate into many hours per year.

Pay attention to the small things, because they’re the real big things.

  1. Helpful exercise: imagine you were forced to cut your expenses in half or you’d die. How would you do it? Now, observe the overspending you’re currently doing.
