A lot of nice guys and people pleasers engage in a behavior that I call false empathy. And this is where you pretend to agree with someone so that you don’t hurt their feelings. Now, you tell yourself that this is a good thing to do because you’re protecting them from feeling bad. But the simple truth is, you are fucking lying to them, which only sets them up to be more fragile in the future and gives them the wrong impression about you so they don’t know who you really are. You can’t hurt someone else’s feelings, you can only show them their own beliefs. If their beliefs hurt them, that’s their problem. Make sure they know what their problem is.
