One of the worst lies that we tell ourselves, and I spent most of my life lying to myself in this way, is that the confrontation that you’re looking at having doesn’t need to happen. That now’s not the right time, It’s not that big of a deal. I don’t want to look too sensitive. They’ll just react badly. I won’t get what I want anyway. The various versions of this lie that come up. All of them designed to delay this difficult conversation. There’s something I really urge you to do. Take a moment to look back over your life. And look at the cost of that lie. Look how often it turned out that confrontation was really necessary and how often your life got so much more difficult especially as it accumulated all these missed confrontations Having a difficult conversation is easier in the long run, and there’s no better way.
