I had a big breakthrough in my twenties in the area of dating and actually all areas of life, when I had a realization about something that I would call Applied Optimism, which is, you know, I used to be plagued by self-doubt all the time and then I started acting as if everything was all good. And what I mean by that is if I didn’t know if someone liked me or not, I behaved as if they did, and if I didn’t know if I deserved a promotion or not, I went for it as if I did. I kept going unless I got a red light. I kept going as if I had a green light, and I had so much more success and so many more opportunities. And so many surprising wins from that, that I realized it’s actually better than worrying about things going wrong.
