Acceptance is not the same thing as Tolerance. An issue I get brought to me quite often by my clients is this idea that acceptance means just putting up with shit from people. Acceptance is about recognizing what you can’t control and refocusing on something you can. Tolerating something you can control is not the same as acceptance. So, if somebody disrespects you, and you could confront them, or you could leave the situation and end the relationship, or you could make a formal complaint, but you don’t that’s not acceptance, that’s tolerance. Always stick up for yourself. Always respect yourself. Always change what you can change if it improves your life.
