Quantum Parts Courage: Definition of Bravery

This is an excerpt from my course: 3X Your Courage

The Secret to Courage: Embracing Quantum Parts

In this post, I want to share with you what I consider my secret weapon for cultivating courage. This isn’t some groundbreaking new concept, but it’s surprising how few people truly understand or apply it. I call it Quantum Parts Courage.

Breaking Down Courage

The term “quantum”, borrowed from quantum physics, refers to breaking something down into its smallest parts to better understand it. Similarly, courage isn’t about a single, monumental act. Instead, it’s a series of small, manageable actions that we often lump together and perceive as one daunting task.

Take, for example, starting a business. We often think of it as a massive, singular action. But in reality, it’s made up of countless smaller tasks—like creating a business plan, registering a name, setting up a website, and more. Even something as simple as meeting a new person involves multiple steps, from initiating conversation to exchanging contact information.

Courage: Wisdom Over Strength

Courage isn’t about brute strength; it’s about the wisdom to break down overwhelming tasks into smaller, actionable steps. When we view a big task as a series of tiny, significant actions, it becomes less intimidating. This approach helps us see that no action is too big or too scary when broken down.

The Power of Small but Significant

The essence of Quantum Parts Courage is to focus on actions that are small but significant. These actions might not seem impressive on their own, but they build your confidence and integrity over time. Any action, no matter how small, is significant if it moves you closer to your goals.

How to Apply Quantum Parts Courage

Here’s how you can start applying this concept today:

1. Unstack Your Tasks

Identify three to five tasks you’ve been procrastinating on. These could be anything from starting a new fitness routine to launching a business. Write them down.

Now, choose one task and unstack it. Break it down into smaller components. For instance, if your task is “investing money,” you might break it down into:

  • Research what investing means.
  • Find beginner resources.
  • Identify someone knowledgeable to consult.

By unstacking, you turn a daunting task into manageable steps.

2. Start with the Smallest Action

Focus on the smallest, most manageable action you can take. This might be as simple as opening a website or making a phone call. The goal is to take an action that feels slightly uncomfortable but entirely doable.

3. Allow Yourself to Quit—After Starting

Give yourself permission to stop after completing one small action. This removes the pressure to finish a massive task in one go. The key is to ensure you never do less than one minute of action. This minimum keeps you moving forward without overwhelming you.

4. Desensitization: Moving the Needle

Another aspect of Quantum Parts Courage is gradual desensitization. If something feels too big or scary, start with the least intimidating version of the task and gradually increase the challenge. For example, if you’re afraid of public speaking, you might start by speaking in front of a mirror, then to a small group, and eventually to a larger audience.

The Rule: More Than Nothing

The only rule to follow is this: always do more than nothing. Even if it’s just a minute of action, it’s progress. Some days you might feel brave and accomplish more. Other days, you might only manage a minute’s worth of effort, and that’s okay. The key is consistency and breaking down tasks to fit your capacity each day.

Conclusion

Quantum Parts Courage is a powerful approach that anyone can apply. By breaking down intimidating tasks into manageable actions, you can build confidence, integrity, and courage over time. Remember, courage isn’t about taking one giant leap; it’s about taking small, significant steps consistently. So, start today by unstacking one of your tasks and taking that first, tiny step forward.
