Public Humiliation, Confidence, and a Pink Tutu: A Sunday Social Experiment
Alright, folks. As promised, I’m here to humiliate myself in public purely for your amusement. You’re welcome.
The original plan was to find a ballerina costume—you know, tutu, tights, the whole ensemble—but turns out they don’t make those in adult male sizes. Or maybe they do and I just lack the self-respect to search harder. Either way, what I ended up with was a pair of very pink, very itchy items of clothing that barely qualify as legal in some countries.
It’s lunchtime on a Sunday. The streets are alive with people fresh from Christmas in the Park, enjoying the vibe, laughing with their families… and I’m about to ruin it all by showing up like a deranged flamingo.
Bricking Myself: A Foolproof Preparation Strategy
Before I did the walk of shame (or glory, depending how you look at it), I used a mental prep technique I like to call bricking myself. Real scientific stuff. Basically, I just get myself into such a state of fear and anticipation that the only way out is through. Classic “back yourself into a corner” maneuver. Worked great.
So I throw on the outfit—if we can even call it that—and head out into public. I’m getting the kind of attention usually reserved for exotic zoo animals or really confusing art installations.
The Point (Yes, There Is One)
Let’s pause here for a second, because you’re probably wondering: Why are you doing this?
This whole ridiculous escapade is meant to prove a simple point: most of the stuff we’re scared of—judgment, embarrassment, humiliation—is all in our heads. I’m out here looking like a rejected Vegas showgirl, and you know what’s actually happening? Not much.
Sure, I get a few glances. A couple of laughs. One guy asked if I was doing push-ups for TikTok. But for the most part? People just ignore me. Not in a rude way—just in a “yeah, weirder things have happened” kind of way. And that’s fascinating.
Anticipation vs. Reality
Here’s the truth: last night, I was lying in bed imagining all the ways this could go horribly wrong. Angry people. Security. Screaming children. Maybe a viral video that ruins my life forever.
Instead? Nothing.
I built up this mental monster, and when I actually faced it—poof. No monster. Just a bunch of people doing their own thing, barely noticing or caring that I’m parading around like an off-brand Disney character.
If anything, I think I made a few people’s day. I got some smiles. A few nods of respect, even. And the weirdest part? Once I got over the initial dread, I actually started to enjoy it.
Everyone Else is Embarrassed For Me
What’s really wild is watching how other people react—not to me directly, but to their own discomfort on my behalf. You can see it in their faces. They don’t know whether to laugh, look away, or call their therapist. I’ve basically become a walking exposure therapy exercise.
And here’s the best part: once you’ve done the thing you’re afraid of, it loses all its power over you.
I’ve crossed the threshold. I’ve danced in pink spandex in front of hundreds of people. I’ve been ogled, judged, ignored, and maybe even admired (okay, probably not). But I didn’t die. No one called the cops. I didn’t lose my job or spontaneously combust. In fact, I kind of feel bulletproof now.
The Letdown You Didn’t See Coming
Honestly? It was a bit of a letdown.
Not in a bad way, just in the sense that I expected something big to happen. A confrontation. A memorable story. A viral moment. But reality, as it often does, just sort of… fizzled out. People saw me, smiled or didn’t, and kept going. The world didn’t stop. No one freaked out. And that’s the exact lesson I was hoping to get out of this.
It’s a reminder that the stakes are almost never as high as we make them in our heads.
So What’s the Takeaway?
You don’t have to go full flamingo mode like I did, but if there’s something you’ve been afraid to do—speak up in a meeting, share your work online, try something weird—do it anyway. People are too wrapped up in their own lives to care. And those who do notice? They’ll probably respect you more for having the guts to put yourself out there.
Or, worst case, they’ll forget about it five seconds later when someone drops a latte or their kid starts crying. Either way, you win.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
The fear of judgment is often worse than the judgment itself.
Most people don’t care nearly as much as you think.
Doing something ridiculous can be liberating.
Embarrassment isn’t fatal.
Final Thoughts (and Clothes)
So yeah, I’m going to go put some actual clothes on now. My work here is done.
Would I do it again? Maybe. I mean, I did get more positive attention in this outfit than I usually do in a month. So who knows—maybe this is my new look. “Pink Tutu Guy.” Has a ring to it.
But seriously—if you’ve been holding yourself back because of fear or embarrassment, consider this your sign. Go be ridiculous. Be bold. Be unforgettable. Or at the very least, be unbothered.
Because in the end, the world doesn’t care nearly as much as you think it does—and that’s the most freeing thing of all.

💬 What Clients Say About Dan Munro Coaching
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ James K., CFO
“I actually believe women can be attracted to me now and I no longer see women as on a pedestal. I had created excuses in many areas of my life to keep me from changing to the person that is more successful. I am a happier person now. I actually feel confident that I will be able to achieve my most important goals whereas before I was almost resigned to never being in a relationship and had accepted that maybe it’s just not for me.”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Simon C., Insurance Analyst
“I was having a problem with self-confidence which was ruining my life. I felt confused, desperate, and was losing hope. Dan helped me rediscover my core values and I have started to build a life I truly want to live. I found the courage to take a risk with exploring a new career path. “I started my journey as ‘Mr. Nice Guy’. I would find it hard to rock the boat. Trying to avoid confrontation at work was leading to frustration and low self-esteem. I used to be scared to assert myself for fear of coming across as an unpleasant person. Thanks to my work with Dan, I have practiced the simple yet difficult task of expressing myself honestly. Handling confrontation is a skill I continue to get better at. It has helped me cultivate deeper and more satisfying relationships at work, and even led to me being invited to speak internationally to other professionals.”
