How to escape from a Narcissist

I had a dude asked me about how to deal with ending a relationship with a narcissist. In this case I think it’s somebody he works with.

He was talking about how they engage “proxies” – other people – in the kind of circle of targeting and bullying. It feels like you’re up against this crowd. How should you deal with it?

It really is only one way to deal with a malignant narcissist:

Run and hide!

Cut them out of your life. Cut all contact and all possible forms of contact. Even if it means changing your job or changing where you live, in some situations.

Treat them like they don’t exist and ignore every attempt they make to engage you, even via proxies. Hold strong until they lose interest, and do everything you can to block them from your life, e.g. change phone number, make social media private, cut contact with proxies, walk the other way if you see them on the street etc.

Do not try to engage them. Do not even bother confronting them unless you’re doing it for your own self-development. Even if you want to work on confrontations, you should practice on normal healthy people. You don’t practice it on toxic people who are looking for any reason to keep engaging you.

As soon as you interact with them, you’re already playing their game. Just run and hide.

That’s the only effective approach.

  1. Note: very few people actually have Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Fully research it before you label someone – this post only applies to real narcissists
