My friend sent me a video the other day of this guy—he’s an aviation expert who looks at plane crashes and gives commentary on them.

He noticed that in some cultures, there are quite often plane crashes because the less senior members of the flight team are too scared to disagree with or speak up to the more senior members.

Sometimes there’s a fraudulent senior member flying the plane who shouldn’t be there, and the young person actually allows the plane to crash rather than cause a confrontation.

This is how bad people-pleasing can be. This isn’t even some random, exceptional, extreme example.

It destroys marriages.

It ruins families.

You role model for your children and create a whole new life of disaster as they follow in your footsteps.

It tanks your career—or at least makes it plateau, or forces you down a career path you don’t even enjoy.

It’s the end of businesses because it lacks the kind of assertiveness needed to build them. It kills attraction and relationships.

It kills the sex eventually.

It just enables toxic people to take advantage of you, encourages them.

You don’t act like a sheepdog, you’re not protecting others, so you don’t stand up when others need you as well.

If nothing else, it just leads to resentment, a wasted life, exhaustion—looking back when you’re older, going “What the hell did I do with my life, and why?”—and missing out, really.
